Report: Wife to divorce Woods

ESPN: Elin Nordegren, the wife of Tiger Woods, will seek a divorce, ABC News.com is reporting.

A source close to Nordegren told the Web site on Wednesday that a "divorce is 100 percent on."

Nordegren was recently photographed pumping gas without her wedding ring.

Woods and his wife have been married for five years and have a 2-year-old daughter and a 10-month-old son.

Woods announced late last week he was taking an indefinite leave from public life and golf while he works to fix his marriage after multiple allegations of infidelity.

The announcement came two weeks after Woods crashed his SUV into a tree outside his Florida home, setting in motion a stunning downfall for the world's No. 1 player, who for 13 years rarely made news off the golf course. One woman who said she had a 31-month affair with Woods shared a voice mail that she said Woods left her two nights before his Nov. 27 accident.

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," Woods said in a statement released last week. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."

Woods has not been seen in public since the accident.

Copenhagen summit

BBC News: Copenhagen summit urged to take climate change action.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen has described the UN climate summit in Copenhagen as an "opportunity the world cannot afford to miss".

Opening the two-week conference in the Danish capital, he told delegates from 192 countries a "strong and ambitious climate change agreement" was needed.

About 100 leaders are to attend the meeting, which aims to strike a deal on major cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.

The UN says an unprecedented number of countries have promised emissions cuts.

But on the first day of the summit, divisions were evident between various blocs, with small island states indicating they would not accept anything less than a legally binding deal including deep cuts in emissions.

In July, the G8 bloc of industrialised countries and some major developing countries adopted a target of keeping the global average temperature rise since pre-industrial times to 2C.

However, small island states think this would cause serious climate impacts from rising sea levels, and have been arguing for a lower target of 1.5C. A number of African nations also back the lower target.

BBC environment correspondent Richard Black say it is possible that the G77/China bloc will endorse the lower target.

Mary Travers

Mary Travers of the famed 1960's folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary has died at the age of 72. Mary Travers passed away Wednesday, the band's publicist, Heather Lylis, says Travers died at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut . Mary had been fighting leukemia since 2005 and ultimately succumbed to the disease despite a bone marrow transplant.

She is survived by her fourth husband, two daughters, two grandchildren and a sister. 

Glee Fox

Nikki Catsouras car crash photos | Nikki Catsouras death pictures

On Halloween 2006, 18-year-old Nikki Catsouras  while driving her father’s black Porsche 911 Carrera at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a concrete tollbooth. She was killed instantly and then just a few days later, nine graphic Nikki Catsouras car crash photos were published all over the internet.

California Highway Patrol apologized for the leaked photos blaming two CHP dispatchers. One of the men’s attorney said that he sent the images to relatives and friends “as a cautionary tale” to warn them of the dangers of the road. “Any young person that sees these photos and is goaded into driving more cautiously or less recklessly-that’s a public service.” One was suspended and the other one ended up quitting.

The Catsourases have spent thousands of dollar in legal fees attempting to stop  Nikki Catsouras death pictures from being published and sued the CHP for negligence, invasion of privacy and emotional distress, but in March of 2008, the case was dismissed by a California superior-court judge.

Federer fights off U.S. Open challenge; Nadal advances

(CNN) -- World number one Roger Federer fought off a tough challenge on Wednesday from Germany's Simon Greul to advance to the third round of the U.S. Open, while earlier Rafael Nadal knocked out a ruthless straight sets demolition of the returning Richard Gasquet.

Federer dispatched little-known Greul 6-3 7-5 7-5, and fired off eight aces. The top seed next faces Lleyton Hewitt, who cruised past Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela.

Indonesian quake leaves 46 dead, dozens missing

CIKANGKARENG, Indonesia – Rescuers dug through rocks and debris with their bare hands Thursday in search of dozens of villagers believed buried in a landslide triggered by a strong Indonesian earthquake that killed at least 46 people and caused widespread damage.

At least 110 people were hospitalized with injuries from the 7.0 magnitude quake just off the coast of densely populated Java island, Disaster Management Agency spokesman Priyadi Kardono said, adding that 10 were in critical condition.

Jaycee Lee Dugard sex slave?

Jaycee Lee Dugard was found after 18 years, apparently she was held by Phillip Garrido and made her a sex slave. Jaycee Lee Dugard bore her abductor’s children during the time she was held captive from 1991 until Wednesday.

Authorities with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Division of Adult Parolee Operations report a parolee agent helped crack the 18-year-old kidnapping case while following up on a tip that Garrido was seen with two small children on the campus of UC Berkeley. The diligent questioning of the parolee officer led Garrido to reveal the kidnapping of Dugard.

Dugard has since been reunited with her mother, which I can imagine was quite emotional. What a crazy, sad story. The poor parents, oh my gosh, and of course all the children involved. What an absolute nightmare. Let’s hope the Garrido’s suffer for what they have done. They should just throw them in the street and let the public stone them to death. I tell you what, if we did that in this country there would be a lot fewer sex offenders sneaking around in the shadows.

Billy Gillispie

Billy Gillispie, former Kentucky basketball coach was arrested on Thursday and charged with DUI. According the reports, was pulled over around 2:30 am in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. According to the police officials, 42-year-old Charles O’Conner was also arrested and charged with intoxication. Both men were taken to Franklin County jail.When asked to take a breathalyzer test, Billy Gillispie refused.

Neil Diamond concert schedule is today August 14. Neil Diamond's "Hot August Night: NYC" airs on CBS. Prior to his concert today Neil diamond talks about his special concert during his interview with ET:

August 2009 meteor shower time

Don't miss the perseid meteor shower tonight! This August 2009 meteor shower time will start about 1:00am AEST tomorrow and will last for a few hours. According to skyandtelescope.com:

This year's standard Perseid peak is predicted to come around 18^h Universal Time (2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time) on August 12th. That's good timing for the Far East, but for North America it splits the difference between the nights of August 11-12 and 12-13. Flip a coin — or watch the evening weather forecast — to decide which night to watch for them. The shower is also active to a lesser degree for many days beforehand and several days afterward.

The waning Moon is nearly at last quarter those two nights. It rises an hour or two after dark and will brighten the sky somewhat during the best Perseid-activity hours, from 11 p.m. until dawn. Nevertheless, this is a pretty reliable shower, and some Perseids should be there for the catching.

Moreover, meteor specialists Esko Lyytinen and Mikhail Maslov suggest we may encounter a ribbon of very old debris (ejected by the comet in 1610) on the morning of August 12th near 9^h UT (4 a.m. CDT; 2 a.m. PDT). This could up the count for an hour or so. Both researchers also think that Earth's proximity to the stream's core might produce an additional surge four hours earlier, around 5^h UT (1 a.m. EDT).

Underwire bra deflects bullet fired at woman

This news was amazing, I can’t imagine how the metal underwire can deflect a bullet. I have an underwired bra and its metal is just a thin strip. I wonder if the 57-year-old woman from Detroit was wearing a unique underwire bra.

Anyway, Detroit police Officer Leon Rahmaan said the old woman apparently looked out her window Tuesday when one of three men fired the shot. He said the slug smashed through her window pane before hitting the bra's underwire. Luckily the bullet did not penetrate her skin. She sustained injuries but they're not life threatening.

Police said the suspects may have fired at her when she looked at her window after a burglar alarm at her neighbor which was not at home at the time sounded. The suspects drove away after the shooting.
